Value Series: 2008 Sagecliffe 100 Red Wine

Every time I went to a concert over the years at the Gorge Amphitheater I distinctly remember driving by this nicely manicured property wondering  what was there…the answer is Cave B Winery. Perched at the top of the canyon overlooking the Columbia River I have had a few of their wines during the last few years and value can certainly be had here. With the Cave B Inn & Spa also residing there surrounded by their own estate vineyards and orchards; I need to make it over there for a weekend retreat with the wife sooner than later.

2008 Cave B Vineyards Sagecliffe 100 Red Wine

I know I grabbed this from Costco for less than $20, and in fact think it might have been closer to $15. This blend is comprised of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Syrah, 14% Merlot, and was aged in 35% new American oak for 22 months. I can tell you this, for $20 this is a slam dunk. You can easily spend twice this and get half the wine.

Popped and poured. Dark ruby in color with aromas of dark cherry, leather and toasted marshmallow jumping out of the glass. Very fragrant. On the palate the dark cherry is accompanied by dark chocolate, Asian spices, and toasted oak. Good acidity, medium to high tannins, medium bodied with a nice finish.
